Medical Oncologist

Dr Sukumaran is a senior Medical Oncologist at Southern Oncology SA. Clinical areas of interest include general oncology, head and neck cancers, lung cancers, gynaecological cancers and lymphomas. Areas of research interest in cancer include supportive care, head and neck, lung and gynaecological cancers.

Dr S Sukumaran did his specialist training in Medical Oncology at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Adelaide before being awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in Medical Oncology in 2010. Subsequent to this he joined as a staff specialist in Medical Oncology at the Flinders Medical Centre, Flinders University and Flinders Private Hospital. He is a principal investigator in several clinical trials and also reviewer for the ‘Medicine’ journal. He was formerly chair of ACTEC (Adelaide Cancer Trials and Education Collaborative). He is also affiliated to the Flinders University as a Senior lecturer and a supervisor for student MD projects and learning coach for Medical students.

He completed his undergraduate MBBS at Medical College Thiruvananthapuram, India and Physician training (MD) from Lokmanya Tilak Muncipal Medical College ( Sion Hospital), Mumbai University, India. Subsequently he started his Medical Oncology career as an advanced trainee at The Tata Memorial Hospital Mumbai, India before completing his specialist oncology degree DM (Doctorate of Medicine, Oncology) at the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. He also did a clinical observership at the Memorial Sloane Kettering Hospital in New York.
